Hi! My name is Lesley Jakovcic. I grew up in Sioux City, Iowa and received my Bachelor of Music Education and Bachelor of Fine Art from The University of Iowa in 2009. While at The University of Iowa, I played trumpet in the concert band, marching band, and brass quintet. I am currently pursuing a Master of Music Education degree from The University of West Georgia.
I began the first four years of her teaching career in Springfield, Colorado teaching K-12, and discovered the joy of Orff Schulwerk. I have completed 2 of 3 Orff Levels, and hopes to complete level III soon.
hen I am not teaching, I pursue other musical endeavors such as singing with the Columbus State Choral Union, and playing in a recorder ensemble with other music teachers every Friday. When I'm not making music, I am in my garden, riding my horse, or spending time with my dog, 9 cats, or my chickens, ducks, and husband!
I teach using a combination of Kodaly and Orff methods. The Kodaly method uses traditional folk songs and games, and as well as Curwen hand signs and Solfege (Do, re mi...) to teach music literacy. The Orff method builds musicianship through singing, playing instruments, speech and movement. My classroom is an active classroom where children will work together to create their own songs, dances and games while learning about the world around them.
